The BeagleBoard-xM is a nice unit, but you're facing several hurdles
in using it with LinuxCNC:

* It uses a different CPU than the 'Bone, so it will be difficult to
leverage the work happening with LinuxCNC on the BeableBone.

* It has less available expansion I/O, and the extra built-in I/O
isn't particularly applicable to machine control (ie: DVI, S-Video,
audio in/out).

* There is no PRU available for direct real-time control of I/O.
There is a DSP available, but you (or someone) would have to write
code to make it useful. I have not reviewed the data sheets to see
how suitable the DSP is for real-time I/O control, but it's intended
purpose is for audio and video decoding, not real-time I/O processing.

While the BeagleBoard-xM could possibly make a good platform for
LinuxCNC (especially with a small FPGA based expansion I/O board),
you'll probably face a lot less work using the 'Bone for LinuxCNC
(unless there's someone working on supporting the xM who hasn't been
posting here).
