Hi EBo > What code were you testing with?
Just a few lines of G-Code generated by a Rhino script to evaluate if using splines might be an option in machining complex optical free form lens. Result: Very promising, but to much work to implement a script to generate the code. > BTW, if you can point me to some docs on the Sinumeric > (and how you are thinking to program it), I will take a > quick look. Sinumeric controls can perform a spline approximation of a polygonal tool path on the fly while executing the program, but Siemens also provides a kind of pre-processor to process standard polygonal code and convert to spline code. Obviously the are not expecting any CAM program to generate spline code, as the documentation on the format is rather poor - or I'm just unable to find the right manual. You will find some basic infos here: http://www.automation.siemens.com/doconweb/pdf/840C_1101_E/SPLINE.pdf On page 3-16 you will find a simple spline program. I'm using the on-line spline interpolation on all free form milling, works well.
