Maybe when I > get another machine will I put 12.04 on it just be aware. > You can 'apt-get install gnome-desktop-environment' and then reboot, at the login screen somewhere you're given a list of choices of desktops to use, choosing one of the gnome or gnome-classic options gets you very close to where you were before, but with a newer OS.
