Gene, you may use git for your work, as it makes keeping track of changes much more convenient. It's a bit of a learning curve at begin, but it's worth it. You don't need to know about all of the gymnastics possible with git, but make a working branch for a small task, if the task is done merge it into the main tree or trow it away ... That's the basics I work with and it saves me tons of time at cost of a few cli commands.
