IMO it's much easier for an end-user to upgrade the OS than the processor, since it's just a hard drive swap. So i think the cost to our users when we drop an OS (*cough*Ubuntu 10.04) is much less than if we were to drop support for 32-bit x86 processors entirely.

One thing I appreciate about Debian is that they still support 32-bit x86, so we get that processor architecture nearly for free.
