Hi John, Long time, no type :-) To my understanding, a WDM is a "Wavelength Division Multiplexer". They are used in Fiber optic systems to separate one wavelength from another. The grade school description of one would be three pieces of optical fiber fused together in sort of a "Y" configuration. One transmits both wavelengths, the other two fibers are specially doped and/or made so that they will only transmit one wavelength. There may be some that use gratings as a method of wavelength selection as well. We use them; but we don't make them; so I can't be too specific about how they're made. The ones that I'm familiar with are completely passive. No electronics at all. Mostly silica, epoxy and possibly a metal tube for strength. You wouldn't find them in a typical Radio Shack. That's why I'm voting for no CE mark required. Wouldn't you agree, now that I've described the object a little better?
