Actually you are partially correct as wall/floor type power supplies and power cords do require approval by a METI accredited lab and must bear the PSE Diamond Mark. Under their regulatory scheme Japan has three categories of products. * It is compulsory to have conformity assessment from a Third-Party Conformity Assessment Body that is authorized and approved by METI. * Only a Third-Party Conformity Assessment Body is entitled to issue the "Certificate of Conformity." * It is the manufacturer's legal obligation to keep the certificate and testing record as required by the DENAN Law. The PSE diamond mark is legally required on the label for identification purposes. 2. Other than Special Electrical Appliance and Material products * It is necessary to have product safety compliance conformity from the manufacturer or Third-Party Conformity Assessment Body * It is the manufacturer's legal obligation to keep the certificate and testing record as required by the DENAN Law. * The PSE circle mark is legally required on the label for identification purposes. The Bose products would fall under the second category "Other than Special Electrical Appliance and Material products" which is a self declaration, similar to the EU CE Mark, requiring marking with the PSE Circle mark. The only question in this case is whether Bose has too mark the product because their input voltage is under 100Vac. We will have these products tested for Safety and EMC compliance but we have been told that the products should not bear the PSE Circle Mark as they are under the 100Vac limit.... Since you are not providing a power supply you have no need to apply the mark. As for EMC, Japan normally only requires radiated and conducted emissions based on CISPR16 but they may also request additional information based on the IEC immunity requirements. It is up to the installer to provide the power. We have been told by our Japan office that these low voltage products should not have the PSE circle Mark on the label as they are under 100Vac. My questions are as follows: 1. Since these products are <100V are they exempt from the PSE circle Mark requirements? 2. If they are exempt from Safety requirements are they still required to meet EMC requirements for Japan?
