Kris,

You should find all the information you need in the IATA Dangerous Goods
Regulations. The current edition is the 46th Edition, effective 01 Jan 2005
to 31 Dec 2005, ISBN 92-9195-318-0. There will be a new edition published in
December for 2006. There may be amendments to the current edition, and these
can be found on the IATA website www.iata.org/dangerousgoods .
There are a number of different UN Nos associated with batteries and battery
powered equipment:-

UN3292 - batteries, containing sodium
UN3028 - batteries, dry, containing potassium hydroxide, solid
UN2794 - batteries, wet, filled with acid
UN2795 - batteries, wet, filled with alkali
UN2800 - batteries, wet, non-spillable
UN3171 - battery-powered equipment
UN3090 - Lithium batteries
UN3091 - Lithium batteries contained in equipment
UN3091 - Lithium batteries packed with equipment

I hope this helps.

Subject: Air transport of batteries

Hi group,

Are there any requirements on bulk transporting re-chargeable batteries
by air ?
Can these be shipped inside the product (like a battery pack in a
notebook, a Li-ion battery in an iPod) or must such batteries be packed
separately outside the product?
Note: this is not about (batteries inside) PC's carried by passengers,
but on cargo transport.

Best regards,

Kris Carpentier
