Hi all,
 
I spent September 11, 2001 at a SEMI program in St Paul looking at a video and
discussing the flammability effects on large objects such as tanks and
reservoirs, sinks etc....
 
it seems that, at the time, we needed to start looking at these effects as the
flames did not self extinguish as they should have. I believe this was after a
fire in Taiwan?? where equipment that was not supposed to burn did.
 
Perhaps we should look over at that neck of the woods for the effects on large
thick pieces of plastic.

I suppose a good follow-up question is: what standard is doing that? If you're
referring to the 60950-1 standards, a fire enclosure is defined separately,
then acceptable material flammability classifications are provided that meet
the intent of the definition, rather than the other way around.

Worse than that, UL94 flammability classifications are for small scale (0.5in.
× 5 in.), flat coupons. I've heard anecdotes that the stresses placed on some
polymers in some injection molding processes that were not well thought out,
caused some reduction in flame resistance. I don't know how true that is or if
perhaps the stresses allowed creation of openings quickly as heat is applied,
being interpreted as the material being consumed.

Even that depends on the locations and sizes of openings.
