Scott et al, Let's remember that the sound pressure requirements in 60065 are the response of the TC to the Euro efforts to write mandatory, legal requirements to limit hearing damage to kids who wear the earbuds and listen to loud music all day long.
There was considerable discussion on the issue - both technical and legalese. In the end it seemed prudent to write the requirements as much along the line of the legislative requirements as possible - not any more expansive nor any more narrow. This requirement is intended to show good faith between the TC and the regulators in hopes of minimizing or eliminating the need for such legislation. Certainly, not everyone in the group feels the same need for such requirements; in my opinion, folks ought to be personally responsible for their own behavour and bear the consequences rather than have a nanny-state try to take care of everything. Thanx for entering into the discussion. :>) br, Pete Peter E Perkins, PE Principal Product Safety Engineer PO Box 23427 Tigard, ORe 97281-3427 503/452-1201 fone/fax p.perk...@ieee.org - ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message is from the IEEE Product Safety Engineering Society emc-pstc discussion list.
