Where I once worked we had a calibrated bucket of sand. It was used to
apply pressure to LCD panels to see if they would break. We had to send
it down to metrology yearly for calibration. We asked if we could just
get a calibrated scale and weigh the bucket ourselves we were told no
because we were not certified to weigh a bucket of sand
It would be awfully tempting to replace the sand with 'natural
fertilizer'.
