I had an application where the tab used for bonding the sheet metal cover was spot welded to the cover. Inside were conductors protected at 125A. I was wondering how many spot welds might be needed to ensure that a ground fault wouldn't simply blow the spots off before tripping the breaker.

I have seen a case where two spot welds were specified on the grounds that one is insufficiently reliable. But you simply have to test such arrangements, and test several samples.
