How about a battery powered handheld Gauss meter with an audible alarm ? (since magnetic field is proportional to source current for a wire)
If the gauss meter is not located where the susceptibility source could influence it, you could calibrate known current values versus measured gauss levels (with the gauss meter in a fixed positon) and then set the alarm accordingly. Of course this depends on whether the gauss meter range and resolution falls within the range of your current level to be monitored. See link below. https://www.trifield.com/content/dc-gaussmeter-model-gm2/ This one has an audible alarm when the field exceeds a user selectable threshold level or if the level is between a user selectable upper and lower bound. Range for this model is 0 - 20 kG with 0.01 G resolution in the 0 - 800 G range. There are other gauss meter manufacturers if you Google "gauss meter with alarm" (with quotes). I'm looking for a piece of stand-alone test equipment, a multimeter, where I can set a limit and have the thing generate an audible tone (like during continuity testing) if the preset level is exceeded (or if a measured value is below the preset minimum). Datalogging is not of interest - what I need is a real-time alarm which I don't have to visually monitor. It just seems like this should exist, and would be extremely valuable for a test facility to have available, custom configurable for a wide variety of thresholds. I don't want to constantly have to watch an ammeter/voltmeter while also operating the susceptibility equipment. I also don't want to have to connect a DVM to a PC; I want the limit setting function to be self-contained. Seems as if there ought to be such a device, but I can't find it. Doesn't have to be an ammeter per se; if it can measure dc millivolts, I can use a current shunt.
