Hi I have once evaluated a professional (ca 80'000 $) solution where you can guide the probe by hand.
I will try to describe it, how it worked: You had an separate electronic consistent of a 3D probe, an PC with control/measure software and an interface box between control-PC, probe and CNC. When you start the measure process, the PC measures the pressure/ movement of the probe and "cheat" or shift the position of the CNC axis and record the measure points in the PC if you pull the probe, the axis would move away, until the pull force was zero. with this solution, you could move the whole CNC with your fingertips, and guide the probe easily over the scanning sample. or second, the control-PC moved a pattern over a defined range, and the Z-Axis was automatically guided. I hope this description is understandable, for me, it was the easiest solution according me, as operator. I think, this functionality could even be implemented in EMC, but not as a "dummy" programmer as me ;-) Hansjakob Rusterholz ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by DB2 Express Download DB2 Express C - the FREE version of DB2 express and take control of your XML.
