I rung out my encoder wiring from the breakout boards to the encoders,
found some errors and corrected them. Now my X axis counts but my Z
axis doesn't. I wired my X and Z to Axis 0 and 1, should it be wired to
axis 0 and 2? Or should the configuration (hal and/or ini) be changed
to use axis 1 as the Z axis?

I'm encouraged that I finaly got one of the encoders counting! My lathe
has 1.2HP servo axis motors capable of 240IPM so I plan to be real
careful getting my drive, tach feedback, encoder feedback, and command
signal polarities right. Most of what I've read in the EMC users
manuals I downloaded is about configuring EMC for mills, where can I
find configuration information for lathes? Specificaly I'm looking for
info on which axis on the Mesa to use with Z (per my question above) and
which for my spindle encoder. My hardware is Mesa 5i20, 7i33, and 7i37
boards.

Has anyone here used Mesa boards on a lathe yet? I have taken some
vacation time from work, I'm off thru 6/12 and hope to get the control
part of this lathe running. I'm new to EMC and Linux and hope I can get
some help getting this thing going. You guys have been great and I
appreciate the answers so far.

Thanks!
Roger Neal
