Good news, more or less. I can burn the slightly-oversize .iso files I
d/l'd with either ImgBurn or Alcohol 120% and get a perfectly fine
LiveCD, rather than a coaster.
I persist in wondering what's different about the EMC2 image, since,
as I've mentioned, I had no similar trouble burning Ubuntu and Xubuntu
images posted at their websites.
But what the heck, I can run EMC2 now.
