It might.  The encoder count is supposed to go from zero to the 
number you specify as the scale for the spindle.  Maybe it is no 
problem, as the count before spindle sync engages is not 
considered important.  Once it syncs, then having it set to 2000 
should give the correct lead per turn.  So, I guess the only 
consequence is that it can only sync on every other turn of the 
spindle.  At any reasonable spindle speed, the extra delay 
should be minimal.  I'm trying to think if there is any problem 
when doing a multi-start thread.  I think there shouldn't be.
