I am working on my thesis where I will talk about benefits of EMC2 and
step by step to build something that working.
I will include something about C programming next year but now working
around Abstract.
I am open for all suggestion critics and so on.
Thanks for any help.

Open source software for the motion control.

Definition of manufacturing industry can be very broad and include
companies that produce hardly comparable products. At the same time,
as I can see, there is something that unites most if not all
manufacturing industry and it is necessity for the organized and
controlled the mechanical motion.

Idea to organized and controlled motion not new at all but only on the
digital technology platform motion control grow to the level where it
is now.
It wasn?t long time ago when first machining center and lathe equip
with digital based motion controller that we know now as a Computer
Numeric Controller ?CNC, become widely available on the shop floor.
Names GE Fanuk, Allen Bradley and Simens and few others become known
as main manufacturers of computerize motion controllers CNC.
In my view somewhere early in 1980th milling and lathe machines with
computer based motion control become affordable to middle and small
size machines shops.
It was hart to not notice that for good span of quarter of century
almost all market of CNC controllers was dominate solo by the
GE-Fanuc, A&B and Simens.
While numbers of machine tools build by the domestic manufacture
constantly increase along with the most drastic increase of production
by Asian machine tool builders (Taiwan, Japan, Korean and China) GE
Fanuc, Alen Bradly and Simenc remarkably dominated the market of CNC
controllers.
Machine tool building industry was always changing under pressure of
cutting cost.
Most visible way to cut the cost was cut label cost by moving
manufacturing facilities primarily to Asia. Not much machine tool
builders could do with the cost of CNC controllers them self because
instead of market competition there was market monopoly.
In early days cost of CNC controllers was 80 -90 % of cost of all
machine. Machining center and lathe equipped with CNC controller can
be much more productive and investment into CNC controller was
justified.
One can guess that because there are only 3 major CNC controllers
manufacturers so there will be 3 or so different type of languages
used to program machines. It can?t be far from the truth. Market
forces shaped machine tool building industry in the way where not only
machines build by different machine tool builders use different cods
for programming but also each machine builders kept changing cods from
model to model and updated programming cod from older model to the
newer. As a result of that it is hard to find any two or three machine
that can ran with same program.
Part of that problem can be explain by constantly increasing
capability of machines such as adding 4-5 axis, grinding capability,
dual spindle(for mill) or dual turret (for lathe), robotics loading
and uploading parts, high speed material removing, real time probing
of machined part, laser detector of broken cutters, high pressure and
temperature controlled cooling system, automated chip
removal/(blasting-blowing away) for vertical machining centers and
many others innovations that still to come.
The most current trend in machining industry is that each machined
part can become so increasingly complex that it can cost up to ten
times of the cost of the most current CAD/CAM software package capable
generate and run up to 5 axis tool paths.
Dropping price for CAD/CAM software based on free market competition
that propelled by large amount of software tools available for the
programmers and many of which open source type GPL (General Public
Library).
The remaining obstacle on the way of improving productivity and
cutting over all cost for manufacturing industry, in my view, based on
the reduction of the monopoly of brand names CNC control manufacturers
by implementing and improving open source software for the motion
control.

Implementing of open source software for motion control can solve two
main problems, reducing over cost for motion controller and improve
universality of programming code.
