I can't say for certain, but it sounds like just a processor power issue. The process may even show a lot of idle time. Whats most important is how quickly the processor responds to the real-time interrupt request, and that a non-maskable interrupt hasn't taken priority over it. The older celerons also had crippled cpu cache's if I remember correctly. Right now I am running emc2 with X-windows on a regular P800 with 512MB and I don't have any real time problems and this is using the on-board video.
I wonder what non-maskable interrupts could be running on your 433? I am not sure the interrupt priority on i386 machines off hand, anyone else? The processor is an Intel Celeron 433 Mhz. RAM is only 256 megs (I have to allocate 2 to the onboard video). When I run the latency test over a remote X11 connection I get significantly better scores (and the UI is much more responsive) than when using the local display but I still get occasional realtime errors and latency overruns. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Microsoft Defy all challenges.
