Interesting.

The processor is an Intel Celeron 433 Mhz.  RAM is only 256 megs (I  
have to allocate 2 to the onboard video).  When I run the latency  
test over a remote X11 connection I get significantly better scores   
(and the UI is much more responsive) than when using the local  
display but I still get occasional realtime errors and latency overruns.

Aside from the latency issues the machine is quite slow.  For  
instance running the image2gcode python script is very slow, and Axis  
is sluggish even over X11.  I can run image2gcode on my Powerbook,  
and I may try a less demanding UI than Axis, but there's no point in  
trying if I can't resolve the latency issues.

BTW: When I use a remote X11 session I disable ssh tunnelling (this  
produces a huge speedup).

I think I've disabled any power management options in the BIOS, but  
I'm not very familiar with playing around with PC BIOS, so I'm not  
sure if I got everything.  I do have USB enabled so I can use a USB  
keyboard to configure the BIOS.
