Just in case, the parallel port is fairly limited in speed. I am guessing 20 to 30 kHz is maximum. If you make a disk, the number of slots per revolution will be limited to something like 30kHz/3k RPM = 10 slots (?). Like John said, you should have two channels, one for index, another for A and B. You can get A and B from one channel of slots by offsetting the B sensor by 1/2 slot spacing.
