I haven't seen a modern digital multimeter rated for more than 750 volts in, 
and knowing the size of the scaling resistors used in such an under $200 
beast, I would not apply it for more than just long enough to take a reading, 
2, 3 seconds maximum.  Certainly it would not survive a steady application 
for 5 minutes, of much over 150 volts.
