I have a similar situation to you. I have a EMC2 build environment on my laptop, but my main OS is Fedora. So I set up VMware Server 2 on my laptop, and installed EMC2 Hardy into it. I do all of my design, and copy my files to a shared network drive. I do this so that I can build on my laptop, and test on my shop computer. EMC2 complains about realtime not working in VMware, but the simulation otherwise works. My mill is not finished yet, but I can spin the motors while they are sitting on my bench, all without errors. Also, I keep the two systems updated, so that I don't run into problems with mismatched software. I have stripped the software on both computers down to just what needs to be there. I strip more off of the shop computer, than the laptop, but otherwise they are the same. This saves time when the updates are installed. Why update OpenOffice (and others), when it's not used in the shop, or on the laptop (VMware side). Also, I have Satellite link to the net, so I have limit on how much I can d/l a month. -- Ne m'oubliez ...Family Motto Hope for the best, plan for the worst ...Personal Motto ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This SF.net email is sponsored by: SourcForge Community SourceForge wants to tell your story. http://p.sf.net/sfu/sf-spreadtheword _______________________________________________ Emc-users mailing list Emc-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/emc-users
