John, It is generally pretty simple. If you are getting connection refused that usually means emcrsh is not running. Another way to start it from any configuration is to use halcmd (after starting emc) from a terminal session as follows:
halcmd loadusr emcrsh Then see if you can connect with: telnet localhost 5007 Note: If you build from source rather than from the pre-compiled packages you will want to run: . scripts/emc-environment >From the base emc folder before running halcmd. If you were trying to connect over the network, make sure that a firewall is not running or if it is, that it allows socket 5007. Regards, Eric Thank you for the information, I am beginning to grasp what I need to know to proceed down this path. I have tried to connect to emcrsh following your instructions below, I am using Hardy Heron and EMC2.2.3 but I cannot get a connection to emcrsh. It either tells me the connection is refused or just hangs. I suspect it is a LINUX problem and not an emcrsh problem. Any help you can provide will be most appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The NEW KODAK i700 Series Scanners deliver under ANY circumstances!
