electrical interference.
Is is possible that motor signals to the Y axis are getting into the Z 
axis encoder signals?
You could probably disconnect the Z axis encoder wires at the Pluto end 
and see if you
still show this problem.  If not, then it HAS to be electrical 
interference to the encoder
input.  These can be hard to diagnose, but at least you know it involves 
wires instead of
lines of code.
