Is there a power LED on the adapter?  Mine has one, so I know if the LED 
is dark, it has
lost +5 V power.  I squeezed the contacts on the power socket and 
expanded the male
pins on the crummy knockoff connector, but if it fails again, I will 
have to replace it
with one salvaged off a better unit.  You might try tightening the 
connector pins, if this
is indeed the problem.
