Yes, taken to its logical conclusion.  Cover the whole rear 1/4 of the 
blade, clearing the teeth just enough to clear.

Obsolete now, but the only one you can leave on the saw even when using it 
to cut long slots.  All of his newer, probably safer versions must be 
removed if the wood passes over the blade.  I have two, one for thin kerf 
blades and one for regular 1/8" kerf blades.  And they are NOT alu as shown 
in the pix at the bottom of the page, but heavily blued steel.  I hate alu, 
it marks the wood like a #4 pencil and you have to sand it off.  This steel 
does not leave a mark.

For the same reason, the top surfaces of my BT-3000 are Formica covered.  
The rip fence is next, it is going to get its sides covered next.  Then 
anything that touches the wood will be covered.  This has taken some re-
work of the rip fence because of the thickness of the formica, but that is 
fairly easy.  Details at 11 if anyone cares.  :)  I bought another sheet of 
Formica day before yesterday.
