There has to be some configuration option set wrong. I have never ever had that error as long as the 'targets' indicating the axis is homed (in the axis interface) are present. > at this point the enhanced > machine controller is less successful than the crummy accumotion > software that i started out with ten years ago on win98 with a driver > based on the stepper H bridge and and two parport controls through a > 7400 series nand or some thing to make step one and step two. the > complexity of g code mostly is in interpolating arcs because then > trig is involved in the intermediate movement between the start > coordinate and the end coordinate. damn. and eveything requires a > password. Huh? Your initial login as the _user_ is all that is required. The only thing that needs a password is for some operation such as using the package manager to install another software package, like qcad or ? to help with gcode generation. That has nothing to do with emc. Sounds to me like your installation process somehow went aglay & its something you are consistently doing with every install. There is a link to the current distribution custom cd image on linuxcnc.org. Get it, burn it to a cd, reboot to it and let it do a 100% default install giving it the first users name and password. When done, remove the cd and reboot again, logging in as that user. You will need to run stepconfig and set it up for your machinery, and then run emc without ever being asked for another password. This is as far as my crystal ball goes, we need more info on the computer and machinery before any of us can find the magic twanger for fixing this. >From a fresh reboot, hit ctrl+alt+t to get a user shell window and type 'uname -a' & post a copy/paste so we know which version.
