Using OpenOffice and tragesym seems to go pretty quickly.

http://ftp.sunet.se/geda/docs/current/tutorials/tragesym/tragesym.html

I only put in the minimum information since I don't expect to get output
for a .hal file.

I'll make them as I need them at first. I'm still not sure what I really
need or want, so just using what I have so far may make that more clear.
My thinking is that, if gEDA works out, it will be more successful if
the symbol library is fairly complete, but it's not a high priority at
the moment.

The automated output would be nice, but I usually end up having to fix
the result anyway. Getting something that is close would be handy as
long as the utility doesn't insist on "fixing" my "mistakes" later.

I should post what I've done so far onto the wiki so that you or others
can decide if it's worth bothering.

I've copied it to my symbols directory and played with it a little.

Thank you for making the page. It may save me some effort in making and
documenting .hal files. I'm trying to get my mill carousel working and
it's turning out to be a much bigger job than I had thought. I can get
bits of the system working, but seeing how the bits should interact is a
challenge.
