Around a broadcast station, with lots of stuff rack mounted, that is often not an option. More than likely I was working on it while it was on the air, or going to be on the air in 30 seconds! So the scope has to be portable enough to go where its needed, 6 foot up a 8 foot stepladder if that's where you need it.
