I got turned onto 'em by a retired engineer here in the DC Metro area.  
It's tough to beat the prices on some of this old equipment, and the 
good thing about 99.9% of it is you can still repair it with OTC parts.  
And, the service and cal manuals have the full schematics and photos of 
the PC boards to help.  And 99% of those manuals are free for the 
downloading and printing out in dead tree copies.
