Viesturs, It is late here, and I will read your post again tomorrow, but I feel a need to ease that concern. No-one is suggesting that we change the main thrust of using gcode with LinuxCNC. It couldn't ever happen, I believe. Experiments with new grammars are only to see if there are benefits to _some_ users in having a more explicit input syntax, which is then converted to gcode. Input filters have been part of LinuxCNC for some time. All we're doing is playing with one of those. Gcode is natural to gcode experts, and that expertise is respected. Something which is easier to read when an occasional programmer comes back to an old program, is attractive to some users, though. The LinuxCNC gcode reference, and the gcode overview, are essential for survival with gcode, I find. I also agree with all you've so ably said about Apt. Please consider the experimentation harmless. It is quite peripheral to LinuxCNC, and might be used by a few, as an optional input filter, if it is ever finished and found suitable. The concerns about that experimentation are a bit surprising, because it's not intended to change anything in the mainstream. Most of the fun is just seeing what is possible with a BNF grammar, after the purely theoretical early discussion. Erik P.S. I hope you're not having excessively arctic conditions there. At least Andy went looking for it. -- COBOL: An exercise in Artificial Inelegance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Keep Your Developer Skills Current with LearnDevNow!
