Hello List!

In the recent few days i began to reanimate my old milling machine
(2,5-axis). The short-term plan for the hardware is to mount reference
switches, coolant pump and a vacuum desk to it. On the software side, i
want to get rid of the MS-DOS based crappy program which came with the
stepper card and replace it with linuxcnc.

Unfortunately I don't have a Step-Direction based card installed (I plan
to build a new one based on TB6560 or A3977, but that is rather a long
term goal). In the mean time, i want to use my old card (EMIS SMC-800),
which cannot be driven directly by linuxcnc.
After some research, I found out, that 6(!) years ago, someone wrote a
HAL Driver for another card which works quite in same way.
( see
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg00010.html )

My card uses two bits per phase to select current, two to select
direction for each phase and two to select axis. The manual can be found
here:

http://www.produktinfo.conrad.com/datenblaetter/950000-974999/967599-an-01-en-SMC_800_Schrittmotor_Karte.pdf

Signals are described on page 11.

Since I am all new in using HAL, RT-Linux and EMC (but not linux) maybe
someone can help me to find a starting point?

@ Mr Paul Fox: If you are reading this, I would be very happy if you
could share your driver to me!

greetings from Vienna,

Alexander Grill
