You can also print the ladder sections. I remember it being a bit quirky but

oh actually I tried it with 10.04 and I could make a PDF too...
The symbol names dialog allows comments on components that don't have HAL
signals.
Other wise the comment tells you the HAL signal connected.
You must add each component you wish to have a symbol name for. I found it
tedious so
I add a couple, saved and opened the ladder program with an editor and added
then manually.
I always meant to change it to add them automatically but I guess I didn't....
You can add a label and a comment to each rung. The label is used with Jump
coils IIRC.
If you click the components when not in edit mode you will get info, such as
the signal connected,
timer times etc. They show in the status bar below the section window.
