There is also no light or any way to see the reticle then either;) The commercial ones have magnifying eyepieces too. Heres an import version from enco but it has a 3/8" shaft whereas the OP asked for 1/4". Might be a lot simpler & cheaper to figure out how to turn or grind down the shaft (and keep it on center!) than to build your own.
