Probably,

but you'd need to write drivers.

The i.MX28 looks like it has 8 hardware PWM channels and built-in A/D,
but when compared to the BeagleBone you get no hardware quadrature
encoder inputs, a slower CPU, and no real-time co-processors.

...but it is a nice board, and it could make a pretty handy controller
if they are really going to be able to sell them for $50 or less. I
like the fact that you get more I/O pinned out than on the 'bone, that
it's smaller, and typically most of these ARM chips can be interfaced
to an external memory bus (ie: put a cheap Spartan/Cyclone FPGA on a
board and roll-your-own SOC+Mesa card).

I'm still hoping the 'Bone works out as a good LinuxCNC platform
candidate, but regardless any work done crafting configurations (and
most of the work building drivers) can probably be fairly easily
ported to any other SoC in the ARM ecosystem. The configurations
should even port to a 'conventional' x86 system with appropriate
hardware to talk to the thermistors.
