Chris, You are right about the charge pump but that can be made with a step gen. The stepgen can be enabled by means of the machine_on or emergency_stop functions. Or it could remain on but that would be defeating the object of having it in the first place.
I have a feeling that the G540 has a selection to override the charge pump option. One has to remove the cover to find it but it is all in the manual.
