I use it because I started using it. I guess I could have started with
Mach and been enthusiastic about that.
As a Mac user LinuxCNC was cheaper. Not just the software price, but I
also didn't have to buy a copy of Windows.

The feature I like best, though, is HAL. I like the way that you can
munge signals in any way you want, and do anything with them.
My gear-hobbing setup is a good example, it was almost trivial in HAL
(stepgen.cmd = encoder.position * scale ) but would have been
incredibly hard to do with mechanical linkages.
