Sorry, I meant "Nowhere else in the UK". Which means that if you
produce a drawing "by the book" it tends to confuse the machine
shop...

I can actually see the point that a dot can easily be converted to a
comma to change the value of a number on a cheque or similar, but the
reverse is less easy.
I am reminded of how Chinese numerals have a more complex (and
difficult to alter) form for banking use.
