Its running now, but I had to bring both drives in here and run gedit to 
partition & format them.  The 250Gb's / partition was not recoverable, but 
gedit reformatted it just fine.

I fooled around with the 2T, finally getting a 500 meg /boot, about 5G for 
swap, and the rest was /.  Formatted both to ext4.

Took it back out and plugged it back in, skipped the formatting & went 
straight to the install which completed nominally.

Then I hand carved the network/interfaces, resolv.conf and 2 or so others, 
rebooted. and its now online just fine.  So the old drive is reformatted & 
seems to be ok, but I don't have time to screw with it as I have company 
coming the first of next week, and have got to do something with this 
midden heap we call home.  Reminds me though I have to go fix the hosts 
file too.
