I bought a 7i43 and a couple 7i42TAs awhile back and I am just getting around
to using them to build a new controller box for my 9x20 lathe.

I currently use a DPDT switch to reverse directions and a variable resistor to
control speed.

I have a homemade encoder on the spindle. The spindle motor is a treadmill
motor with a DC controller that will accept 0-5v input in place of the variable
resistor to control speed. I built a PWM to Analog board to put in the
controller.

I have seen recommendations about using a stepgen instead of a PWMgen. Which
would be the better choice? Why?

Thanks in advance,
Alan
