I also have a more modern (mid 90s?) Poulan lawn tractor which I thought 
was cheaply made until newer models came out. It only mows the lawn and 
has been reliable. I like the hydraulic transmission. Shimming the blade 
hubs so that he blades were flat and level made a big difference in cut 
quality. although the lawn is going to be brown this year.

I think the Poulan and the Montgomery are related to MTD.

The Sears SS16 is fairly heavy duty. After adding a transistor ignition 
and carburetor kit, it runs pretty well. The Wards is the same size as 
the Sears, but all parts are a grade down.
