I do build from source,

So should I have the VMC folder be in my 
"home/testpc/linuxcnc-dev/configs directory,

Then from the command line be in the 
"testpc@testpc:~/linuxcnc-dev/configs$" directory,

Then do " sudo halcompile --install --install-doc carousel.comp"

Does that sound right?
