Methylated Spirits is ethanol (spirits) with a bit of methanol (AKA wood
alcohol) added to add just a touch of making it poisonous.

Methanol has the fun feature of being metabolized into formaldehyde by
human biochemistry and it's also extremely destructive to optic nerve
tissue. So if it doesn't kill and embalm you, you'll be blind.

Methanol is often found in "Fusel Oil" formed during fermentation of
alcohol. It takes a skilled distiller to not get that into their product.

For even more fun, Fusel Oil can also contain isopropanol, which your
liver will happily metabolize into acetone, a chemical commonly used as
a solvent in paint.
