OK, I found my problem. Simply a matter of caps. wrong -> (axis,STOP) right -> (AXIS,stop)
It helps to pay attention to the docs... This still doesn't fix my beef with M66 timeout, of course, but I am much relieved that I can at least load programs with indefinite termination.
