I have several VFDs that do not have Modbus interfaces. One plan was to run Modbus to the VFD, but run it through an Arduino or AVR mounted to the front panel that would twiddle the VFD's control pins and run PWM for the analog speed pin. This is one of many things I haven't gotten around to finishing.
