It might be but in such case good real time perfomance is required for the 
computer and the communication. If real time stuff is put on a simpler computer 
with nothing else to care about I could take any computer and expect it work. 
If graphical user interface is kept away from the real time stuff a very simple 
computer could be selected.

With a small computer, maybe a cheap ARM on the Mesa card for the real time 
part of linuxcnc latency would not be an issue as it is today.
