Gibs too tight? No lube? If ball nuts, miss-aligned because the bearing
boss on the end of the table has slid a few thou as it was being torqued
up?

My little hf x1 (retrofitted with the bigger tables) has to be screwed
completely in before the bearing bosses are tightened down so they are
aligned well. They've been fitted with ball thrust washers but the
bearings are the original zero clearance, so any nut miss alignment even
though they are tiny ball screws is pretty critical because it makes
that bearing at the end of the table bind pretty bad. In addition to
drilling out the mounting holes about 20 thou so they could move to
align with the new nuts, I drilled them for grease fittings, but the
shaft clearance is so small it takes minutes to push 1/4 of a stroke of
the grease gun in. A teeny little groove will get machined to match the
pinhole the next time I have it apart. Hind sight, 20-10. :)
