Until it doesn't, long time down the log. You'll need to rig a once per turn index though as you bee way out of time. At 10g revs, you'll need an index every turn, which you won't get if its geared down. However, an even number gear down might work. But it for sure won't if the geardown is fractional. So use a 1000 line encoder, gear it down 4 to one and use a scale of 250. And that should work.
