Their web site says it was specifically designed for LinuxCNC and works
with the stepconf setup app. They claim perfect emulation of the PC
parallel port and that their device can work as the first of second
parallel port. They also claim that somehow (they don't say) they have
solved the timing issue. I guess they do what I thought of and use
Isochronous transfers.

They do make the claim the device allows software stepping even with a PC
that totally fails the latency test. I don't see how this claim is
compatible with "perfect emulation of parallel port".

But if this device works perfectly as claimed it will be no easier or
harder to configure than a parallel port. Why not just use a parallel
port? I know the Pi has not Parallel port but why do people like using
Pi4? They are slow and hard to use compared to an actual PC.

I have both a P4 and a 4 or 5-year-old HP PC and the PC runs circles
around the P4. My Old PC runs a milling machine and a 3D printer (with
Octoprint) and streams a web cam all at once. The old PC was free. The Pi
was about $65 with a power supply.

I use the Pi for a robot controllers because it needs to run off battery
power and fit in the tight space. That is the only advantage to using
Pi, it fits in a small space and power budget. If you have a nearby AC
wall outlet there are better options.
